BRONZE FIG SPECIMEN
A fig preserved eternally as a unique cast, a direct translation of the original organic specimen into bronze, capturing every detail and curiosity of form.
UK artist Alice-Andrea Ewing creates these magnificent pieces by adapting the Italian Lost Wax casting method or ‘cire perdue’ method to burn out organic matter. Her works are informed by the seasons and the bounty found in nature, with small collections produced each year and form part of a body of work known as the Pomarius Collection. The Pomarius Collection evolved out of Alice’s collaborations with gardens, historic locations and ancient trees in the UK, including Darsham Nurseries in Suffolk.
Pomarius now consists of a wide variety of natural specimens, fruits, nuts and other varieties of plant and produce. A small piece of the UK country side for the botanist, the epicurean and the sentimentalist... a beautiful object of curiosity to enjoy.
